Recently Lok Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2018. The important features of the bill include :
1.The bill provides for 3 to 7 years prison term, besides fine, to those convicted of taking bribes and those offering bribes.
2.The bill also extends the ambit of public servants who will be protected by the provision of a prior government sanction for prosecution.
3.The bill includes the need for sanction for prosecuting not only serving officers but also former officials for offences done while in office.
4.The bill makes a distinction between 'collusive bribe givers' and those who are 'coerced'. If one is forced to give a bribe, it should be reported within seven days.The bill includes two forms of criminal misconduct - misappropriation of property entrusted to public servant ans intentionally enriching oneself illicitly.
5.The bill introduces a new section for Special Court to attach and confiscate property.
