RemoveDEBRIS spacecraft is the first ever mission to clean space junk. The mission is led by Surrey  Space Centre at the University of Surrey (UK). The  mission to test possible solutions in cleaning up space junk has been deployed by the International  Space  Station (ISS) and is expected to begin experiments in orbit.

Space junk  to the extent of  7500 tonnes is circling above the earth. The junk includes among others old rocket segments, bits that have fallen off satellites etc. This space junk  could pose a collision hazard to operational missions that provide important services, such as telecommunications and environmental monitoring.
